Probably just where our coaches have experience and contacts. I would say DFW, Houston, Memphis, Mississippi and eastern areas where Kirby recruited for Georgetown.

Also international.

I have confirmed that Johnny Jones was personally at the Great American Shootout in Duncanville, Texas this past weekend watching Jarell Martin. While this is not huge news, it does cement the fact that LSU has locked onto Martin as their top prospect. The vast majority of other top coaches were in Atlanta at the Peach Jam. I assume LSU sent assistants that that event.

Apparently David Patrick has targeted his first Australian.

From Rivals:

quote:

Earlier this month, Australian combo guard Dante Exum made waves at the World 17 and under. This week, he's in Las Vegas with the Australian Institute of Sport and is a very intriguing prospect. At 6-foot-5, he can handle the ball very well, has some offense and is a fine athlete with length. He says that he's planning to come to the States for school and said that he's had some contact with SMU, North Carolina (where his father played), St. Mary's, Boise State and LSU among others.

His stats from the FIBA U17 world championships

Scored 17 and 21 in two meetings with the USA, including the title game.

From hoopniks.com

quote:

•Dante Exum, 6-5, 2013, PG, Australia Institute of Sport - A smooth lead guard with exceptional body control, the rail thin Exum has the look of a player that could be a future star. Much like 2015 forward Ben Simmons, this Australian would likely rank among the elite players if he was in the United States for high school. Certainly, Exum will need to increase his aggressiveness and add strength to his frame, but there is nothing that would prevent him from being a high-major point guard if he decides to go that route.

This coverage is all from the Las Vegas AAU tournaments that are going on right now, which is the last evaluation period of the summer where college coaches can scout in person.

What's a realistic class you would be extremely happy about?

I would take Martin, Jones and David Taylor and be ecstatic. Jones has said he wants to sign 4, but that was when it looked like Odoh was coming aboard. He may sign 5 now. I think he wants a shooting guard, but I don't really see a realistic high level option on our list. Perhaps Dante Exum?

I would love Mickey or Shepherd, but I think they are kind of duplicative of Martin and Jones.

i guess with exum, if unc is really interested and wants him they'd be tough to beat though we'll see what patrick can do. bring him to a football game and let him hang out with our punters.

He may not be a UNC level recruit, but I have no problem taking their scraps. I did notice that he shot horrible from 3 at the FIBA tournament, like 15 percent. That's not good for a shooting guard. I think he's more of a scorer than a shooter, which is not all bad.

David Taylor update from earlier this week. Looks like he's doing well in international competition.

German U18 National Team occupied the third overall position at the international tournament in Istanbul, Turkey. They overcame Slovenian counterparts on the final day of the tourney. Paul Zipser (195-G-94) and David Taylor (188-PG-95) knocked down 15 points each for the winners. Paul Zipser was named the MVP of the tournament. Slovenia claimed the second overall position despite the loss.
Germany eked out a 21:19 lead after ten minutes. They stretched the lead in the second quarter. The German youngsters ensured a 39:29 halftime advantage. Slovenia narrowed the deficit in the third term. They got within 6 points at the final intermission. But Germany held Slovenia to 13 points in the fourth quarter and sealed the victory at the end. Malik Mueller (190-G-94) notched 10 points for the winners. Gregor Hrovat (94) answered with 21 points for Slovenia. Tomaz Bolcina (202-F-94) netted 15 points in the loss.

Germany U18: Paul Zipser 15, David Taylor 15, Malik Mueller 10
Slovenia U18: Gregor Hrovat 21, Tomaz Bolcina 15

Saw the Texas Titans on ESPN last night. I now see what the fuss is about on Julius Randle and Damion Jones.

Randle had a bad game for him but still showed fantastic natural ability. Very, very fast and energetic for a big man with good ball handling skills. Great athlete not just tall. His downside is that much like JOB he doesn't see any limit to his talent and tries to bull his way to the basket when he doesn't really have a lane.

Damion Jones is good but not great now but looks to just have a huge upside as he matures.

Everyone in the country is after Randle and if we get him it will be a miracle. Hope we have a much better chance on Jones as we really need some big players to fill our needs.
