LSU Football lost Danny Lewis to Alabama because of a NIL deal
Lewis ending up with Alabama wasn’t a total surprise — it’s never a surprise when Alabama lands a recruit, regardless of where they’re from.
But there was a reason Lewis signed with Alabama over LSU. And it wasn’t just because of Alabama’s recent success.
According to 247Sports’ Shea Dixon, who covers the Tigers on a daily basis, there are a lot of folks who feel like Lewis signing with Alabama came down to a NIL deal — though it wasn’t necessarily a big NIL deal.
“Many folks feel like this came down to a NIL deal, though it wasn’t a big number,” wrote Dixon this week.
It feels like LSU has been lagging behind a bit in NIL deals — it’s also the reason they lost four-star in-state running back TreVonte’ Citizen to the Miami Hurricanes.

No big deal. You have to run the team like an NFL organization where you have to allocate your available money to the biggest needs and that's a good thing. Save money for absolute musts like Sampson.

Thank you Captain Obvious

We lost Matthews, Citizen, and countless other in state recruits to NIL deals.
The same thing will happen with the 2023 class unless we get our act together.

How is it no big deal when the top players from Louisiana are going to A&M and Bama bc LSU won't pony up the money? Even more a slap in the face when they say it wasn't even much money LSU wouldn't give him. Now here LSU is scrambling for a TE while Bama has them about 6 deep on the depth chart. Something has to change bc saying Kelly just needs the kids that want to play here isn't going to win LSU another championship.

Little Nicky said he hates NIL. F'n a-hole...

They'll have multiple TEs with splinters in their asses. What a shame...

Patience grasshopper
The portal will even out these NIL deals

It is absolutely a big deal.
LSU shouldn’t have to worry about allocating money
LSU absolutely fricked up NIL and the proof is in the players going elsewhere

They outbid everyone else for a premiere LB in Perkins who probably wasn't cheap and dried the NIL pool money up.
LSU is late on NIL but they're starting to roll now. First to market with a true NIL deal too which means everyone else is a follower at this point. That will be great marketing moving forward even when every university does the same thing. This recruiting class is going to be good don't worry. The NIL movement is happening now at LSU. We had more hoops to jump through to get it going thanks to laws.
You guys keep saying we got beat with these NIL deals but what do you think they paid to get starters who were all-conference, arkansas starters, etc. ?
They paid players in the transfer portal to win NOW not 4 years from now because BK recognized we needed a full rebuild that could be done immediately through the portal. He's not dumb. This team may surprise this year. TAMU paid for a bunch of guys who may never even pan out and way too many alpha dogs in the locker room. LSU paid for proven SEC players who are leaders who will play immediately. I think that was a smarter strategy. I'll bet LSU has a better season than TAMU next year. Also, 1 year transfer portal player means jack shite right now when elite players enter the portal constantly every year. This may no longer end up being a recruit 3-4 year player but recruit the elite 1 year starter in portal every year instead to maintain winning. The priorities may have shifted where HS players are more on the back burner and mainly for depth/development purposes. Unless you get someone like Perkins who was probably intentionally targeted as someone who can be an impact player immediately.

This was way more important than any TE.

I agree. Perkins will be a 1st round pick when he's done at LSU. The money went up, LSU paid and was okay with losing Matthews. They wanted him too but obviously they got the better LB of the 2 and I'm willing to bet when it's all said and done LSU made the smarter choice when you look back at their college careers.
Matthews is a good athlete but he's a project at LB right now. He's not a S. Perkins is an impact player that will probably end up a high pick somewhere. He's like a Patrick Queen that has a higher ceiling.
BK is intentionally targeting rebuild now and worry about depth later. He wants players who who thinks can play now and anyone who he doesn't think fits into the culture of the locker room, he's draining the swamp on that cancer. He has done an excellent job. If chemistry comes together fast this team will surprise.

2023 - Look at the Top 10 and how many are currently headed out of state. Unless something changes too, Louisiana top talent will continue to sign with our competition.

He preferred 25K to be 11th on the Alabama depth chart instead of coming here and competing for a starting spot. Best of luck to him.

WE ALL KNOW THIS ALREADY
Why are some of y’all still acting like it’s a surprise or that it’s a big deal? We will win some because of this and we will lose some. It’s not the end of the world. For fks sake

If he was worried about money its the exact opposite of what he should have done.
The national exposure he could have gotten just by coming to LSU and catching a few first down passes in big games would be worth way more than 25 or 50k. Look at how much money Stingley made just by playing here his freshman year.

I'd take Patrick Queen over Jacoby Stevens.

Who cares. We want players who want to be the face of LSU

Sounds like NILSU is NILosing. What’s the deal?

It's going to be interesting going forward. Can we still dominate the state in the NIL era?
