I think we have more than a 'decent' shot with Debose, but everything else was spot on ATL.

I was just listing guys that we have offered at WR (that come to mind.)

You can throw in Chad Bumphis as well but he is MSU bound IMO.

He's tall, well built, fast (state hurdles champion), has great hands, and runs good routes. Other than that he's mediocre. Oh and he seems to be pretty good in the air with the ball.

That's fine. Every person sees something different. I think Appleton is a pretty good player, I just don't think he's a top 50 talent.

I re-watched his Rivals video, and it was definitely more impressive than the one I watched last night where they had him playing defense and receiver...

Appleton was the second best WR on our board IMO. Sad that we wouldn't offer him.
I beg to differ.

Dan, we agree to disagree. The kid is rated 14 on ESPN, 12 on Scout, and 10 on Rivals. He is consistently in the top 100, if not the top 50, and has been ranked as the 5th best athlete at his position. Just because there are potentially better WRs (not that many, IMO) out there doesn't mean he is not good. Maybe all the recruiting services are wrong.

He never said he wasn't good. Learn how to read. He said he doesn't think he is elite.

At this point, I'd consider Randle more than 50/50.

Based on what?

That is horrible reasoning....

His commitment kind of sounds like Trent Richardson's...may have wanted to save himself a spot.

He will still be taking an official visit to LSU.

That's probably because he still wants to go to LSU haha.

That's fine, I could certainly see why you would be excited. I was just doing my own evaluations for another site, and I had heard A LOT of good things about Appleton, watched the film, and he didn't jump out at me like players like Debose, Randle, Brown (even though his comp. sucks) and a couple others.

Good player for sure. I probably understated earlier.

No, really, his commitment doesn't seem solid at all.

Illinois is the ONLY school he has been to. He isn't even taking an official to them.

It almost seems like by committing to Illinois, the fans up there will get off his ### so he can look elsewhere some.

That would make sense.

I am sure someone will jump on e for even insinuating that, but recruiting is about applying some logic to the information that is given.

Why would a top flight recruit commit to a school when he has only been to that ONE. Also, within the past few weeks he had listed LSU his leader.

He had also listed OSU high on his board in the past and Texas Tech as well.

I just don't buy this commitment being firm one bit.

I wouldn't count out UF with Debose even though in his recent update he said he's LSU/Miami. If UF beats Miami in Gainesville this year plus once Meyer starts talking to him more, UF will be a bigtime player for him as we go down the wire to NSD in Feb 09.

Very possible he just wanted more attention from Florida.

got to disagree with you OBU....from what I've seen of Appleton the kid looks like a playmaker. Very good hands, runs solid routes, and rarely got tackled by the first man to touch him.

The kid has seemed pretty uninterested in the entire recruiting process though so if we start feeling bad about DeBose I'd imagine we can sway him with a visit down here.

maybe so

Wooten's announcement Aug. 29th should tell us a little more about how we stand with this WR class imo, depending on whether he picks LSU or Georgia

cuz we've already got Bell on board obviously

i think that most here know the situation with wooten, especially if the thoughts are true and the staff waits to see appleton in person before offering.

and appleton to illinois didnt surprise me. he once told me they were out of his picture, though he had been going to their team camp for some time.

it was osu-lsu. i knew if appleton was as good as billed, zook wouldnt let that fly. i think when duron carter committed to osu appleton backed off a little. he then locked up his spot with zook, but is clearly still going to take his visits.

Not even really sure of the reasoning behind accepting a commit from a guy who basically admits he's only taking it to hold down a spot and is still wide open....i.e. richardson and now appleton

you cant turn that down, though.

you are talking about two top 20 players in the country at their position, with offers to both schools they committed to.

i see what youre saying, but no coaching staff turns them away. they should do like coach Miles and just say that once you commit you are not really allowed to take anymore visits.

I know you can't flat out say no, but if I'm altering my recruiting around a guy's commit I'd like a little more than "I'm committing to hold down a spot"
