Why didn't he get a grade? Did the coaching staff request a grade for him?

This article has nothing to do with the grades given to underclassmen by the NFL. This is an NFL.com writer's evaluations of draft prospects. The author also admitted he has not yet gotten around to reviewing and rating Phillips.

Very misleading message title in the OP.

He'll show up at the combine looking like Tarzan at 6'3 230. All he needs is a nice 40 time and not to blow the other drills and he'll be drafted. He could have a long career as a reserve MLB in the league. shite, look at Manti Teo.
His 40 time is going to be critical. He better embrace special teams.
He'll get his shot. Wish him the best.

How can this kid not be good enough to play in the NFL. He started for LSU and he was productive. Everyone knows that the SEC football makes one pro football ready

Big reason my arse. Phillips played within the scheme. Delpit, Stevens and Queen freelancing caused the long runs

Seems a little premature for that kind of assessment. Wasn’t he invited to the combine?

His decision good or bad is none of your business.

Well, he ain't coming back, so, enough with the he should come back stuff. He had over a 100 tackles this past season leading LB's as well as probably tops on the team. He'll make an NFL team imo and he will improve a great deal with even better coaching at the next level. Kid was a solid player for LSU and contributed greatly in their title run, I thank you you, Joker and good luck in the NFL.

Here's a crazy thought... Maybe Phillips is not NFL material this year or next, so he should stay in school and earn a degree.

Crazy right?

Just because a guy can't "improve his stock" any doesn't mean he should declare for a draft that doesn't want him.

Here's another crazy thought. Just because one link says he's graded as an UDFA doesn't mean iits so. If he does go undrafted he could still make a team and if he doesn't well, why can't get come back to school?
