Can't give you any pricing information, but my family switched from Charter to Directv after Katrina and never looked back. Charter had been BSing us for weeks and Directv had our service set up the next day.

Charter was up within 18 hours for me. Took a month after Katrina.

What is the internet speed like under Direct? From what I can tell Charter is much faster than Direct.

I have DSL with AT&T. Does this mean I can get U-verse? They're closed today. My home and billing address are different so I can't find any info on the net.

DTV doesn't provide internet. You'll probably have to go thru AT&T DSL as an alternative.

I cannot stress enough, DO NOT EVER USE ATT FOR INTERNET SERVICE!!!!!!!!!

Keep charter. If I had a choice for internet, I'd switch today. There simply is no comparison between cable and DSL.

As for TV service, I've had Direct TV for 5 years, and would never go back to cable.

Switched from charter to u-verse for tv and internet last year. No complaints at all. Never lost service during the storm.

Agreed here. I originally had Charter for TV, internet, and phone. TV and phone service blew, so I switched to DirecTV and AT&T for phone/internet. After a few months of DSL, I wanted to jump into Lake Ponchartrain. So now I have DirecTV for cable, AT&T for landline, and Charter for internet. Best of all worlds.

Finally found a human on the phone for AT&T who said U-verse is not available for my address. Looks like DTV is in my future. What's the best way to set it up? (ie what hardware do I need?) Currently only have a VHS and a Charter cable box.

just call directv and they'll tell you what you need. you'll probably have faster service if you go through a local installer.

Had Charter for a couple of years, finally had enough of their crap! I switched to Direct over a year ago & have been completely satisfied!

I've had Direct since Katrina and will never ever ever go back.

For internet service, I splurged and got a my-fi from ATT. I love the damn thing, wherever I go, I have internet

for example, was without internet at the office (cox) while waiting for power...yet my my-fi had service DURING the worst of the storm....just saying
