After my yard guy came and put fertilizer (I think) and fungicide down some areas of my back yard started turning yellow. It isn't a root rot yellow, but a darker yellow. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Could be large patch, could be stress from needing a sharper mower, and could be shorter days.

I looked at it this afternoon, and it looks like it is dying.

Does it pull up easily if you grab it? If so hit it with insecticide.

Are the roots black? If so I’d hit it hard with anti fungus treatment.

Sharpen your mower blades.

I actually put peat moss and disease ex down like Ronk told me. Then maybe a week later my guy came and sprayed a fungicide as well. So, it has been hit with fungicides. Maybe it was too much, but it only seems to be happening in certain areas and not the whole yard. It doesn't pull easily and the roots are not black.

It is probably mower and time of year.

You think I need to change my blades? If blades and time were the issue then why isn't doing it to the whole yard? Thanks.

You sure it was fertilizer they applied, not a herbicide? Pretty late in the year to be applying a fertilizer to St. Augustine. Do they provide a “ticket” after the service stating what they applied?

I am not sure. They do leave something on the door that says what they sprayed. It is not chemical specific. It just says fungicide. I remember the fungicide being checked, but can't remember what the other one was.

Read this LSU AgCenter article on large patch (formerly called brown patch) and see if you think this might be the cause LINK. Fall & Spring is usually when it starts showing up.

If so, sounds like the lawn service already sprayed the fungicide required to treat it.

It really could be coincidental, and not cause and effect, that they treated your yard on their routine schedule and this issue arose.
