Wiring 5-15P to L14-30R

What is the correct way to wire a 5-15P male plug to an L14-30R female receptacle?
The 5-15P only uses 3 wires (black, white, and green). The L14-30R has connections for 4 wires.
Our Mardi Gras floats have a L14-30P on them and I want to test the sound system. I have had this set up in the past but someone took my old set up.

Your going to have better luck looking for a generator adapter, that's what they are commonly used for.
Here is one from Grainger.

Oh, my bad. well in that case you would just not use one of the hots. You only use both x any y if you need 240V. Either one will provide 120V hot to neutral.
Assuming 3 conductor cable:
white-w
green-g
black-either x or y
