I'm reading about St. Augustine now, apparently there is no seed?

Anyone have experience on planting/plugging it?

Zeon Zoysia is hands down my favorite grass. Literally a carpet

St Aug likes to be cut high around 2”

Uf's division of agriculture disagrees, seeing as they invented floratam with Texas a&m, I'm gonna go with their 3.5-4 inch figure.

I had St. Aug at my last house. frick that shite. You’ve got to cut it three times a week to make it look good. God forbid if you get a couple days of rain. Built the new house with Zoysia. It’s beautiful and I can cut it in half the time. People think it’s fake.

Centipede

Strike this off any list. This shallow rooted temperamental grass is a waste of money or at least it is in East Texas. I wish I'd have chosen St. Aug.

I agree centipede is pretty poo due to its dislike for any traffic and slow if any recovery.

About to rip my centipede up, re level with new grade and lay zoysia

Pretty excited. Probably waiting until October or so tho. Any suggestions on best months to lay new sod?

IMO the best time to lay Zoysia is the late spring but I’ve laid Zoysia in the fall and it turned out fine. The Zeon I laid in May looks awesome right now in climate zone 7a/b. It’s best in the late spring b/c you get the full summer to grow and late spring rain. The problem with waiting till October is typically it’s hot & dry and you will have to babysit the grass with water. Year 1 it establishes itself, year 2 it grows, year 3 it leaps

Agreed. I had centipede at the last house and it was horrible. It died from any little bit of traffic and was so slow to grow back.

I ended up using st. Aug plugs and they started taking it over real quick.
