I’ve used this for years but I’m really not sure it’s effective. I usually just try to make sure I don’t drop a bunch in one spot.

Good on the feed but not on the weed part.

Is that a Weed & Feed product?
If so, it’s preferable to keep your lawn weed control and lawn fertilization as two separate activities. For example if you have weeds in your lawn now, they should be treated with a herbicide ASAP, but it’s much too early to fertilize. But if you wait until it’s time to fertilize, weeds have likely matured, going to seed, and generally they more difficult to control. There is a narrow window, time wise, in which W & F products can/should be used. W&F products are simply a convenience product for the consumer, attempting to kill 2 birds with one stone, but rarely is it optimal that the timing aligns/matches up for most effective/optimal results.
If I recall correctly, last time I looked at a Scott’s label most or all of the nitrogen (N) is fast release forms - I prefer using lawn fertilizers where much of the N is controlled release (sulfur or polymer coated) and is released to be used by the turf grass over a period of 2 to 3 months.

I appreciate the time and detail you put into that. I will be looking to separate for coming seasons. Thank you.
