Built a salt water pool about 6 months ago that is 15x34 with a 6x12 tanning ledge off to the side. 550 square feet of travertine pavers, heated, Polaris pump, two waterfalls coming off of a 12 ft (length) wall. Also, have a bubbler feature on tanning deck. All this for 57k.
I'm in Nola area.

adding a hot tub would be 10-15k more.

came with 4 led lights.

also had a/c compressor moved and added subsurface drainage as well.

I spoke with the builder last week and he said my pool would cost an additional 5-7k because of the rising cost of material.

I'd love to see some of your pools in here to get an idea before I get too deep into this. Iv gotten a couple prices from a broad range in LA and nothing is coming close to any of these prices(not saying any of you are lying).

Still waiting on my SUNDEK coating and it should be converted to salt sometime this week. (3 weeks post-plaster) The excess rectangle will be my pavilion whenever I decide to buy the lumber. Slowly working on landscaping. The yard is toast.

This what we haven't figured out yet. What kind of landscaping do we want?

There's a very active FB group titled "Pool Landscaping" that has been very helpful with everything pool related. Not just landscaping. I'm not necessary one for the expected and we're doing a Japanese garden style landscape around it. Junipers, shrubs, a few Thunderhead black pines and a nice weeping maple. All with black slate chips vs mulch and larger accent boulders.

I was going to do rocks around the edge with some shrubbery included.

I will check out that FB group. Are you in Lafayette?

No, I'm in Prairieville. (Went to ULL)
Rocks tend to be the recommendation. Avoid mulch close to the pool. I think the overarching rule is try to avoid anything that will drop leaves. I drew an overall plan, but we're still attacking it a section at a time. It works nicely to be able to do an hour or so of hot arse landscaping and cool off in the pool.

Thanks for the pictures, I appreciate the details.

What is your (and everyone else's) experience with a heater/chiller/heat pump, etc? I am looking at proposals now and don't know what is customary to be included for pools in general, in terms of pumps, chlorine/salt, filters, apps & controls, etc?

FYI, I am in Mandeville, looking at 18' x 38' main pool, plus an attached 10' x 6' spa (raised 18"). Does it make sense to heat the pool, or just heat the spa to dump hot water into the pool? Doesn't a heat pump provide both capabilities (heating/cooling)?

I don't have the same level of transparency on the pool build yet that I would like, so any advice on the process is appreciated (pool depth, construction process, gas metering, electrical, etc).

I have natural gas readily available so I opted for a 400k BTU NG heater. They work the fastest so it's good for heating the spa up on demand. I didn't do a chiller because I have a decent amount of trees for shade but it would be nice to have every now and then when the water gets a little warmer than I prefer.
I don't think the fully automated smart controls are usually standard but I can control everything from my cell phone. I can be out with the wife eating and set the spa to be heated by the time we get home. That's always convenient.

Heating the pool will be expensive. We plan on using the heater mainly for the spa. We will use it to heat the pool to hopefully get an extra month on both ends of the season and rare special occasions. I would heat spa and pool individually. It'll be more efficient that way. Running waterfalls and water features can slightly lower water temp so although it wouldn't likely make a huge difference it would be better to do one at a time. Yes, heat pumps can usually be used to cool pools as well. The only reason I chose a NG heater is because it heats much faster and a lot of the times we will be heating the spa last minute.

Yea if you get a spa and are using natural gas to heat I highly suggest you put a valve in that allows you to switch over to using the heater on the pool. None to get seperate heater as you will not use it much in South Louisiana and that shite is expensive as frick lol

Just have it where you can turn the valves to heat pool if need be.

I used ethix pools in Lafayette. The owner is David Hoffpauir. He is there everyday there is a worker on my property. He has been very hands on. They poured decking yesterday and are doing plaster today.

How big is that covered area? Is there a particular reason it wasn't tied into your roof? I will be looking to have one built on my back patio around 14 x17 ft. The slab is already there.

So that area was 32'x 17' I believe.

As far as why not tied in, I would have had to spend prolly another 5 grand to do that. There was no reason and was best just to have it come over and flow directly on to roof.

So columns were 14"x14"x12' buddy and me cut these.

Beams I got from the cypress place that is north of Grosse tette. We're 32' and 17' long and were 12" x 12" I believe.

I cut all the 2"x 12" rafters with a friend that had tons of cypress and a portable saw mill

Bought the tongue and groove at same place I got the beams.

Everything was cypress.

I liked it but felt the ceilings were a little high.
