Snails?

Snails or slugs by the looks of that hosta and the fact that he hasn't seen any insects on the plants.

OP, get a bottle or two of shitty beer and some shallow plastic containers. Pour a half inch or so into each container and place them around the area. If it is slugs they will be attracted to the beer and will drink themselves to death.

They have those snail pellets at all big box stores. They work ok for me. Less snails and no plant harm so far. Snails hide during the day but they aren’t hard to find. Look under pots and under container lips. Might be in soil if there is space between the soil and the pot.

I've used the pellets before, too. The beer is just a way to see if you have slugs and if they are the culprit. There's also some mulch type stuff that they make that slugs are supposed to hate crawling on. I've never used it, but I know some people use it around hosta, especially, since slugs love that stuff.

I’ll try pellets and beer, thanks.

I did go out just now, and didn’t see anything. Might they be finished?
