What is the best way to make a DIY lawn striper for zero turn?

I’ve tried a PVC pipe filled with sand attacked with steel brackets but the brackets didn’t hold. I then tried letting the pipe drag the ground by chains on each side but all that did was allow the pipe to swing back and forth, effectively rendering it useless. Also when I back up, I have to be careful to not run over it. I don’t want to spend $400 on a striper so I’d like to build one if possible but I just can’t seem to figure it out. Should be very easy but it’s defeating me
My next attempt may be a push broom attached to the back of the deck

I tried a heavy rubber floor mat bolted to the back of the mower. It wasn’t long enough to get caught under the tires if I backed up. I hung the metal frame on a bush and bent it and gave up. Best idea I’ve seen was a push broom head bolted to the mower deck itself.
