Is it that time? When I cut the grass I noticed little white gnat looking things jumping around. They got me pretty good last year so I want to get them before it’s too late again.

I have seen them in my neighbors yard. I don’t have any grass so my yard is safe.

Yes it's that time of the year. You can put down Bifenthrin now and follow up with another treatment 30 days later. The moth doesn't hurt your grass but their horrible babies do.

Did the cold weather knock them back?

White gnats would be webworm moths

Hard to say. Moths are fairly large and more or less flutter across, vs hop like some bugs do. I’d say they’re definitely larger than gnats. I get them every year now and haven’t seen moths yet. I think it’s early for me yet.

That being said I usually don’t have any success killing the moths, at least in time for eggs/larvae to reappear and start eating my grass. Once I first see chewed blades though, I put out Duocide and it stops them in their tracks with minimal lawn damage and fast recovery. Just have to walk the yard daily… it will be obvious.

No webworms, but we have started seeing armyworms in south Louisiana at multiple locations. Just a heads up to anyone reading.

Wow that's early. I'll be on the lookout. I generally equate the two as one in the same for identification/treatment purposes.
