Patched part of my ceiling and need to match the texture. Doesn't look like the orange peel out of the can from Lowes. Could the previous owner have just used a 1/2 nap roller or some kind of thickener in the paint to get this texture?

You should be able to come close with the roller and some drywall mud that is thinned out. Practice on some cardboard or plywood.

I had to match some the other day and I used a sponge. Put the mud on the sponge and came back with a light sand. Came out perfect. I don’t like the stuff in the can. It’s never worked well for me.
