Needing to do this as we have too many trees near the overhead power line to the house. Looking at about 140' or so
Utility Co. already gave me quote for them to dig and install line to house. In addition to that I need to get electrician to install 200 amp meter center in place of the current overhead meter center.
Any idea how much this new 200 amp meter center would cost?

I had a new 200 amp main panel installed 2 years ago, which included installing an interlock kit and 50 amp outlet, to backfeed the house with electrical power from a portable generator during power outages. Cost was $1000 - materials & labor. Now, this was a side gig for the licensed electrician who had a full time job for an industrial firm so perhaps the price was cheaper as he didn’t have much in the way of overhead.

he needs a meter pan not a panel
OP you are going to have to pull a permit for a meter pan, entergy is not going to allow you to relocate a meter without one. call an electrician

I'm not doing it myself. Cleco estimated their end but told me they don't do the meter part. I talked to one electrician ballparking the 200 amp underground meter box install at $2,300.00

the meter pan itself is about 300 bucks retail but they have been in very short supply for a while now. A year or so ago we were buying them on eBay for 1500-2000 each just to stay on schedule

Anyway, materials, permitting and labor for 2300 doesn’t sound out of line

Right next to it.
The new one needs to be installed before the utility digs and brings in the underground.
We'll need use of the old till the new gets connected.

so here’s what will happen in case you were wondering or didn’t know and need to know.

electrician will install the new meter pan on your house with a joint of conduit with a wide sweep elbow down and into the ground. He will also physically connect the new meter pan to the main distribution panel. He will leave the conduit exposed. Typically the electrician will also supply, but not install, the conduit for the underground run (YMMV). CLECO will dig the run from the pole to the house and install the conduit and then backfill. They’ll then pull (but not connect) the conductors. Now you need a temp disconnect/reconnect permit which your electrician will acquire. Once the new gear and run is inspected, CLECO will get a work order to make the connection at the pole, and at the meter pan, and pull your old meter. the electrician will make the power connections to the main breaker, and then CLECO will stab your new meter.

You can remove your old pan yourself now that it’s dead

Agreed…and in my experience, if you can hire an electrician that is used to working under permit with Entergy, things will go a lot smoother.

no doubt
the lineman that came to my house knew the electrician and left the meter with us for us to install. Saved at least two day’s wait
