Sod webworms 2023

How is the dry weather going to affect the sod webworms this year? They are definitely still there, I mowed a back field today that I haven’t touched in over a month and saw some of them.

No impact. They’re all in my yard right now.

Saw moths last week. Only a matter of time before I nuke them.

I am fighting them now. Of course, the yard looks half burnt and half like something has been eating it. I did my first spray about two weeks ago with a spray from home depot and the spread stopped. I need to go ahead and spray again. I don’t think it’s as bad as 2020 (I think that was the really bad year). But I saw some moths Sunday while mowing. I have some sevin I need to put down.

The webworms and moths die easily with almost any pesticide designed for yards. The problem is once they start your neighbors have them and they lay eggs, my understanding is the eggs aren't killed by the spray so they hatch and the pesticide if a spray has washed away after a couple of days usually. So you really need to retreat the yard every 10-14 days or they will come back.

I've started mixing Monterey BT and liquid humus concentrate in the sprayer and applying when webworms are active. Takes care of the webworms and the grass recovers quickly.

I remember reading that here in 2020 and that worked for me. I can't remember if I sprayed 3 rounds or just 2.

Nuke with what?
I use Anderson’s Duocide. It stops the larvae grass munchers in their tracks.
