Been in this house for 9 months. There has been several occasions where the water will have a pretty heavy silt content. If it runs for a couple minutes it seems to clear out. There will be some light silt from time to time as well.

There is a WG 948 filter before the house. Obviously it need to be flushed or replaced. But I've never seen silt come through lines like this.

Is this a symptom of the well going bad? Is it worth changing the filter or media if the well is pushing a lot of silt?

Where are you by chance? I've noticed the same thing going on with my well.

Folsom, LA.

Someone said it may be the catalyst breaking down, it degrades over time and likely needs to be replaced.

We were getting silt when we first moved in and our well guy cleaned the filter and changed the media. It helped a lot for a while then eventually started happening again. This time he changed something else with the filter flow and it’s been fine for like 6 months now. In Folsom also.

Hmm. I'm getting silt in my water as well, but I've been lackadaisical with putting salt in my softener. I've gotten it filled up now and bought extra salt so I don't run out for awhile. Guess I'll see if that improves it. Next step will be a whole home filter just after the treatment tanks.

We are dealing with the sulfur smell and taste getting in our water now, so I'm about to have to spend $1,200 on a tank to remove that.
