yes, like a gangly teenager. There used to be several on the parade grounds but I'm not sure if they are still there.

A live oak, but ultimately would spread too far, unless you planted on the property line and the adjacent neighbor didn't mind.
Another suggestion, although probably not exactly native to you is an Ash tree. They are allegedly a very sturdy tree that holds up better to storms,etc

Not sure, next time I’m on campus I’ll check but there some planted around the Campus Federal Credit Union on campus.
