Decided I’m going Scag, just narrowing it down. Will be cutting 3.5 acres between two properties. Once I sale one property, I will be down to 1.5 acres, thus not really needing the 60”.
Thoughts?
Thanks.

I own the Kawasaki. Have for 6 years. At one point, it was the best engine out there. Still the best in my mind. So Kawasaki IMO

I have the Liberty Z model with Kawasaki engine. It’s been a great mower for me. Can’t speak to the Kohler engine, but from what I had read when I was in the market, Kawasaki > Kohler although both are very good.

Motors are probably comparable to be honest. The difference will be in the deck construction and the hydraulic motors. Commercial hydraulic motors are normally much heavier duty than residential duty. If your place is relatively flat, might not matter much in the long run.

The Freedom Z and Liberty Z run the same transmissions (ZT2800’s), same spindles, deck is almost identical. Both are extremely reliable and will do you fine for 3.5 acres. That being said the Freedom Z’s almost never come back to the shop for anything, super reliable. I do prefer the Kawasaki FR more than the Kohler 7000 and long term the Kawasaki will probably have less issues. Either way you can’t go wrong.

I have a Scag Turf Tiger 52" Zero-Turn riding mower that has a Kohler 27 HP engine.

I bought it brand new from the dealer in March of 2004.

Until about 2012, it was used to about 8+ acres. Since 2012, it's used to cut about 2+ acres.

It still runs great and burns no oil.

The engine was leaking oil last year, which required gasket replacement.

Otherwise, all I've done for the engine is regular maintenance per the owners manual, i.e., oil filer and air filter replacements, oil changes (every time with a new oil filter), and replace spark plugs when needed (about every 3 or 4 years, if that often).
