I recently got a new dishwasher to replace my old one which worked for a while but is now defective. I’d like to have it recycled but if you have to pay money for that, I’m just tossing it. Do places like Home Depot or Lowes make you pay a recycling fee? I couldn’t really find a concrete answer.

Facebook marketplace: free. Someone will come pick it up, fix it up, and sell it.

if you have a metal recycling center near you, they'll probably give you 10-20 bucks for it

I got free installation and I paid an extra $25 for them to haul off the old one.

Yep, we bought a new washer and dryer a few years back. I asked the appliance company if they would haul the old ones off. They said it would be a $50 charge. I then called the local metal recycling yard and asked if they took washers and dryers, they said yes. I was more than happy just to get rid of them without having to pay anything. But when I pulled into the yard they made me cross the scales and after unloading them they had me cross the scales again then handed me a check for $50. So the appliance company was going to make $100 to haul them off.

OP asked about a dishwasher. Dishwashers these days are a lot of plastic, would they still take them and payout by weight?

Definitely keeping the recycling in mind when I have to replace washer/dryer

A fridge/freezer has a lot of plastic to it also.

They typically label it as bulk metal or something. If you had separated all of the different types of copper, stainless, etc, you could probably do better but it would be a pain.
