House we bought has a microwave/hood combo. Ick.

Want to replace with a 36" undercabinet hood that actually works. Budget under $1000. Prefer closer to $500.

Too many choices out there and I can't figure it out. As always, lots of conflicting reviews.

I replaced mine with one by a brand called Awoco. It doesn’t look very different than most, but the blower box is mounted in the attic keeping the noise much lower.

Define “actually works”. Not taking smoke away? Just recirculating it? Is your micro/hood combo venting outside or just back into the kitchen? Do you have to run ductwork?

The one I bought for my house is a 900cfm zline insert with remote blower. I received two packages from Amazon, one with the blower and one with the vent hood insert that had a blower in it. We didn’t install the remote blower at the time but I have to admit, when cranked up this thing is loud! I need to look into cutting the remote blower in.

I have a Zephyr. It moves so much air that if it wasn’t bolted to my cabinets it would take off.

Current micro/hood is ducted through the roof. Still doesn't do crapola.

I love the idea of a remote blower.

That looks like my solution. Only hitch is in my configuration hood would be mounted 32" above cooking surface. Do you think it would still capture smoke/grease at that height?

It's not silent, even with that blower box in the attic. I had to tack up a few 2x4 strips to give it a mounting surface, and I even bought some thick rubber grommets to screw through when mounting. I had a zephyr before, and it has more airflow and probably half the noise. I'm sure a big roof mount commercial style is much quieter, but this was a great compromise. No complaints and the grills clean up perfectly in the dishwasher (100% stainless, no mesh even)

Look at victory range hoods out of Canada. When I turn mine all the way up I have to open a window or door to let air in!
