That does sound like an expansion valve problem. If the tech works for a company, ask him if he will do it on the weekend without the company knowing about it.

Get a second opinion. I would imagine a climate that only requires a/c 5-10 days out of the year doesn’t have a huge talent pool for repairmen.

You may or may not be able to get the parts covered under the warranty. I would call the HVAC company that installed it if you are the original purchaser

How experienced could an air conditioning technician be to make a proper diagnosis of an A/C operating problem in a location where it gets used a week a year?
