Problem with Rain Bird Sprinkler

Seeking help on sprinkler issue. Water pressure seems to be pushing the stem extension out of lock. Each time I re-lock it, the water from the base just knocks it back out. Nozzle issue? Stem extension? Base?

Any help appreciated.

I'd just buy another head and unscrew the head and take out the guts and cap and screw the new guts/cap back into the old base. Might be the simplest fix. It looks like it's a broken stem problem.

Just looked at the nozzle. Pretty cakes with mud. Gonna clear it out and re-attach. If doesn’t work, will replace.

Big time! But I attribute a lot of that to the sprinkler creating a mote and rain forest from flooding.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t the nozzle. It’s leaking profusely from the base. Can’t figure it out. Prob will have to dig it up...or call someone much more knowledgeable and even more expensive.

It's suppose to. It fills up to shoot out of the stem/nozzle.

Yea but even when the extension on right and the nozzle clear, it’s still gushing out the base.

Fleet, changing a sprinkler head is as easy as changing a light bulb. You have to a little digging and determine if its 3/4 or 1/2 inch threads. I'm pretty sure that's 3/4 inch.

You could just change out the guts like the guy suggested initially in your thread. It's too easy.

Usually when my rainbird heads leak like that, the threaded elbow at the bottom is cracked

Dig up that head and take it to the store and buy another.

Take the head so you know you’re getting the right connections.

I'd still recommend my first post of unscrewing and inspecting. Maybe the spring or a seal is broken. Then you can look in to see if the threaded elbow or base is broken and run it while the guts are out. Either way, you will need a new head and like mentioned before and if it's just the head connection to pipe, you'll have an extra head. Eventually you will have another head problem.

Note: not sure if you have a funny pipe connection to the head or a saddle connection to lateral line.
