I use my attached shed (attached to the garage) for food prep and gun stuff mostly. Would like to start keeping it climate controlled to get a lot of what my wife calls “junk” out of the house. The room measures 7x23, 10 feet ceilings. It is not insulated at all that I know of, need to crawl to the edge in the attic and check.

I was looking at a 12k btu dual hose portable ac, and since my entire home is stucco I planned to cut the intake and exhaust holes in the garage style door that is on the end. Price for the unit, $500 Whynter. Also started looking at some of the smaller diy mini-splits that you can order from places like Lowe’s or Amazon. Could also get a tech out to install it. Just not sure its worth the cost. I am not worried about keeping the room ice cold, mostly just a comfortable temp so seasonings and other things won’t go bad. Any opinions/advice?

Just installed same size diy mini split in my Patio. Had to run lines through attic due to a garage being in-between. It's a Mrcool diy with precharged lines. Wasn't hard at all. The mini split has heat also. I also have one of those portable ones on wheels you're considering.
The mini split is much quieter then you can imagine and likely more efficient. Probably cools better for the size also. Con is the cost.

How big is your patio? My garage is attached to this shed so the only other thing I thought is I could leave the door open at times to help cool the garage. Being only 150 square feet I’m thinking the mini-split may be overkill.

It is for that square footage.

I’ve heard good things about the dual hose Whynter ACs on professional HVAC forums. And if you want heat as well you can consider a Whynter dual hose portable heat pump.

I have the same shed setup and Installed same Whynter setup 3 years ago. We put the dogs in there when very hot or cold. It has worked very well. Be aware that if you get heater, it’s a heat pump and if you let the room get too cold it no longer works.

I built a 17 inch high square platfrom for the AC / Heater unit and installed a condensate pump underneath it. That way all the water from the unit flows into the condensate pump and gets pumped out the window where the intake/ exhaust hoses are Mounted I never have to empty a drain pan or anything.

Works very well for us.

I did insulate the garage door as the big freeze was coming last year. It makes a big difference because the garage door would radiate heat or cold.

Pretty much sealed the deal for me. Think I’m going to order it from Amazon tonight as they seem to have the best price. I don’t have any windows at all in the shed. It’s either cut 2 holes in the wall through the stucco or just route it through the garage door and let it blow/drain onto the cement under the patio cover.

Did you use the sheets or a kit? That is something I will need to do.

I got the styrofoam panels from Lowes that were a kit. Works very well. The sun hits directly on my garage doors and the difference between the shed door that’s insulated and my main two garage doors is very noticeable. Uninsulated you can feel heat to about 4-5 feet. Insulated can’t really feel heat at 1.5 feet.

If you build a platform to put condensate pump below the unit, just cut holes in top of it where wheels of Whynter unit are and it will set right down on it very solidly.

The videos I’ve seen seem to show a lot of extra tubing after install? It’s seems they send a pre-cut length that you must use all of. How did you manage that?

I am in the process of putting a 12,000 BTU Mr Cool split system. The lines are pre-charged so you cannot cut them. I just coiled up the excess in the attic. They come standard with 25’ lines, there are 15’ pre-charged lines available, depending on who you buy the system from they my be willing to swap out the lines for the shorter ones.

I needed 40 feet. I bought another 16 foot set and connectors they sell to combine them. Being it runs through my attic no extra line. It's up there. Maybe 5 feet extra.
