This is a picture of the wedges I mentioned. The boards were straight but to get them to have a perfect seam you had to install 4 each of these to each board and wedge them together. Unscrew, repeat. 70+ boards. It’s a clean looking install when complete but hard pass from me for future ceiling t&g labor!
On the fence boards, it’s not a terrible process with a bench top planer. Two person operation, one feeding, one receiving and checking smoothness. If they weren’t smooth, back in the stack for another pass. If they were smooth, put in the done stack. I wasn’t worried about matching thickness exactly because it was more of a rough look. Everything is within 1/16” thickness but if one had a knot or a dip, it might have been hit with a few more passes until it was done.

next time, just cut a scrap piece of the T&G, slide it in position onto the piece you are putting up, and use a block on the scrap piece and hammer that till the seam is how you want it
I've never seen anyone do it how you did it

I did that. You can see the triangular blocks wedged in. I tried every trick I could find on YouTube and online and nothing worked other than this. Only thing that would have worked was if I didn’t have osb on the ceiling there’s a tool that you can use to wedge between the ceiling joists and pull them together. It’s actually a tool made for deck boards.

I installed stained bead board for my porch ceilings and carport ceiling. It was a dang chore but looks awesome.
Pro Tip - if you decide to do stained bead board, stain the boards before installing!

Thanks all. I do plan on painting or staining before installation.

Coon, what kind of recessed lights are those on the blue ceiling?

Utilitech led lights. I painted the rings.
It was essentially these but when I bought them they were 3 for $10. I think that might have been some
Insane sale. I have 70+ currently installed.
