Do you have sand filter? Maybe your multi value is not seated right in the filter position?
My parents had this issue after backwashing, burned there pump up from running it dry

Make sure you fill your bucket with pool water.

No rain, wind, and low humidity....so 1/4 to 1/2" a day is not out of the norm.
For peace of mind, do the bucket test that has been mentioned.
