Two year old plumeria on back porch.
Just noticed small white dots all over the top of the leaves.

Size of a pin head.

Dark spot on most of them. Not moving but we have looked on line and not positive but think they are mealy bugs.

Can you recommend a spray or can we dust with Sevin?

Need a photo. If it's mealybugs you'll need a systemic in my experience.

Find something with pyretherins in it…basically any pesticide will have that. It is very effective.

Then long term, you can put a systemic drench down to control them for the next year.

Love the down voter lol. All I did was spend 2 years trying to learn their biology to kill them. My favorite bullshite remedy is "use horticulture oil or neem to smother them organically." Go put one underwater and see what happens. They have a protein coat that repels everything. When it goes beneath the water a bubble forms around them.

"So what that's water! We're talking about oil or alcohol!"

Yeah the oil doesn't work. Period. Even at very high concentrations. The alcohol does work, but only at high concentrations and it will only get the adult stage crawlers. The egg and larval stages are all chilling in your soil and inside the crevices of your bark. Myrtles of any kind are especially hospitable to mealy bugs.

The only way to really win is to poison them with a systemic like imidacloprid or spirotetramat. Cannot put into words how much I hate them. I use systemics and they are still trying to pop up in my collection as soon as they wear off.

I feel the same way on the Money Board. People downvote me no matter what I post. But what happens is it makes 3rd parties think the post is wrong when in fact it’s just hate.
