If you have any trees around, the leaves/ needles will eventually clog the crap out of the grass, and become a nightmare to deal with.

I put down a couple tons of pea gravel outside for a sitting area and almost immediately removed it. Luckily I needed a greenhouse floor and it works great in there.

Highly prefer crushed or even decomposed granite for fine ground cover. It stays put and you don’t need as much. Not soft or cool though.

It’s doable and looks amazing. Bigger pavers are absolutely the way to go. Maybe do 30x30. Unlikely to regret this imho
