I’m in the dirty Deep South and obviously it’s still hot as balls. My Palisades Zoysia grass is very green but thin due to foot traffic. The kids like to play in the yard and it has lots of thin areas. Is it too late to fertilize? If not, what should I use?

It’s hard to get enough fertilizer on zoysia and Bermuda. That’s kind of a joke but not really.
It can be fertilized 4-6 times per year

Milorganite is very, very good and not expensive.

It’s perfectly fine to use milorganite now.

However, I strongly disagree with milorganite being inexpensive or really productive. It has some other benefits in terms of organics in the soil, but it’s N value is very low, and a high P value. This raises the residual P in the soil where you end up with a large excess.

No, that’s wrong. Fert your lawn like a Bermuda and you will frick it up. Zoysia does not require a lot of nitrogen which is why milorganite is ok.

If I had a zoysia lawn I would fert it 3x’s per with 16-0-8 at 4lbs per thousand. I would spread talstar granules at 2lbs per thousand twice a year. I would have two backpacks for the summer. One with Celsius and one with talstar. I would do a specticle pre em in October and I would do a barricade pre em in February and March.

To elaborate a little more on your question and milogranite. Milogranite is perfectly fine for Zoysia. As already said the N % is low. It is not really used to push new growth. It's main purpose is to keep grass green without overfertilizing. Since your lawn needs new growth you would want to use something with a higher N value but not too high. That is why I suggested something in the teens at 4lbs per thousand.
