I’ve got an old home in NOLA.

Putting in a new hood for my oven. I can’t get a feel for what I need in terms of pulling power. I just want to be able to fry fish and sear steaks on my stovetop without the fire alarms going off.

I’m reading that some of the bigger hoods need “makeup air.” The hood I’m looking at now moves 700 CFM at the high setting.

Any advice appreciated.

I have a 1200 CFM hood vent and never had any issues with it.

If you’re in an old NOLA house, you don’t need to worry about makeup air too much. Your house probably has enough leakage to provide the airflow. I just open my back door a crack when I turn my fan on high.
