Using some leftover t & g white oak flooring to make an outdoor dining tabletop, have some welded iron legs for the base. What's the best way to go about protecting the wood from the elements, besides painting? It will be under a patio cover, but it will still get some afternoon sun.

I've had good results with Jack Tar Marine Varnish.

I've had awful experiences with spar urethane for an outdoor picnic table that I stained. I don't know if it's the stain or what, but the urethane lasts for about a month, then starts bubbling, then starts chipping. I've stripped the same table twice already and I'm about to have to do it again. I'm going with a deck sealer next.

maybe try an epiphanes product, like rapid clear or something since a spar urethane isnt working for you. they are a bit expensive, but better than the labor of stripping and redoing multiple times. Also heard applying an epoxy resin to seal in before top coats works wonders as well.

Man-O-war. satin-cut 50% with mineral spirits-stir dont shake- put 3 light coats, allow to dry over night & lightly sand between each coat, will look fantastic and last forever.
