Not looking to spend $1k on a system. I see several on amazon with good reviews in the $250-$500 range. Anyone here have one for their house?

I have a whole house filter and softener. Was a good bit more than 1k installed. It does significantly help with hard water issues (deposits, shower glass spots, soap scum lines, water heater sediment, etc.). It actually reversed issues with our water heater where sediment built up and caused noise. After a few months, that was gone.

Sounds like you did a retrofit. Where does the unit sit, and was a significant part of your install cost digging up your line in?

General consensus from previous threads has been to make the investment in something like the Aquasana Rhino systems. I got lucky and bought a house last year that came with their top of the line system. I think it would be worth the investment to at least double what you are looking to spend and do it right.

I mean this sincerely.... Is $500 more gonna break you?
We installed one after dealing with multiple "we fricked up" letters from the local water company and random instances of rust colored water.
It was a no brainer for us because we were able to drop Kentwood for drinking water. But Id do it again just for the benefits of it reducing calcium buildup and not having to shower in bayou water.

I guess I’m not completely opposed to spending that much if they really work. Never had one and don’t know anyone that does either.

It's in the garage. Wasn't super difficult to access the incoming water line in the wall. It's actually been installed in 2 houses for us now since we moved 2 years ago. This house was a little messy in terms of some exposed pipe in the utility room for the moment, but I have plans to have to build a built in unit there to cover it all. The re-install at the new house did cost us 600. So I guess you can figure that as the install cost.
The unit itself isn't cheap (Rainsoft). I think it was like 3k. Admittedly there are more cost effective options. We didn't shop as much as we should have. But never had an issue with the unit.

I inherited a Rain Soft system when I moved.
All I've been doing for two years is add the salt bags.
When do I need to do something with the rest of the system?
