Need to build some shutters; what material

I’m replacing some rotten stationary shutters on my house. What material should I use? These will be painted, board and batten style (I think that’s the name).

I would use 1x4 or 1x6 primed pine boards. We've used those for window casings inside our house, and framing around our plantation shutters inside. Since you're painting anyway, save yourself a step and get the primed ones.

I don’t remember what it was called, but there’s some treated blue pine lumber that is specifically used for board and batten shutters. I used it on my house and they’ve held up quite well.
It was ordered by Stines for me when I asked about wood for shutters.

Cedar or Kiln Dried After Treated (KDAT) Pine.

use miratec or pvc. just be sure they are fastened to the wall well so they dont pull away and bow. the blue wood someone mentioned is called design pine but they quality of it has gone down recently. it was originally coming out of australia but i'm not certain the stuff in the market now is the same stuff. no will have no rot issues with the miratec or pvc.

My choice also, but damn expensive to buy. I would not use cypress unless I can get recycled old cypress. The stuff you buy cut by loggers now has a tendency to cup and twist on you just like treated pine lumber.
