Considering blackout shadesfor our bedroom so Mrs. BTB can get better sleep when she's on maternity leave. Would motorized shaded look bad over existing blinds? Current blinds we have are placed inside the window frame, so we did go through with this, i would have to remove the trim piece and place the shades above or in front of box that rolls up the string for the blinds.

Only reason i don't want to replace the blinds is because they are in great condition, match the rest of the home, and we just replaced some downstairs blinds a couple years ago.

What about motorized blackout curtains? Might integrate better with the blinds better than installing roller shades over blinds.

There are even cheap curtain motors on Amazon that install on your existing hardware/curtains.

We have motorized shades - expensive but we enjoy them
I wish I could’ve installed them myself but that’s over my head

lol, you think light is going to be her sleeping problem?

Seriously, unless you install the blinds in a track inside the drywall, there is always going to be light bleed of some sort around the edges. If you don't take them down and put the original blinds back up, during a resale, the instant I see something like that, my mind will jump to why they were installed in the first place (blasted by the sun every AM, neighbors with spotlights in the backyard, etc.,) and none of those flights of fancy will involve a pregnant/recently pregnant woman.

Sleep masks on Amazon are cheap. She'll likely be tired enough that you could stick her on the sideline at the Superdome, and she'd find a way to pass out. And if you make the mistake of leaving the kid in your MBR, they will sleep through artillery, some light won't be an issue. The light isn't kids' problem anyway; they respond to being hungry, and a full diaper, and not much else early on.

Yeah, that's why I wish I didn't buy those blinds awhile back, but I needed them since a previous roommate had a dog chew the blinds up to hell and back.

I really like the look of most motorized blinds and wanted to keep that. Curtains wouldn't do as much as I would like as mentioned it would bleed out light.
