Mixing knobs and pulls (open concept floorplan)

The easiest and simplest answer is ... it's my house, I can do what I want with it.
But functionally, traditionally, and aesthetically --- what usually happens when a person has an open concept floorplan (kitchen and living area)? Should the cabinet pulls and knobs matched the pulls and knobs in the living room?
For instance, if I decided on gold pulls and knobs for my kitchen, is it "allowed" to go with different color pulls and knobs (most likely black) for my living room?
My island bar will be painted (switching away from stain) a dark color, most likely navy, and I feel like gold will look good up against this color. The rest of the cabinets and drawers in my kitchen will remain stained, along with my living room cabinets and drawers remaining stained as well.

It will probably look fine mismatched. If you’re concerned it won’t, get everything done, change the pulls on the island to what you want, but save the old ones. Live with the change for a while, and if you hate it, put the old pulls back on.

As long as the knobs dont touch, you're good.

My house isn’t particularly “open,” but every pull in the whole house matches except for one row of cabinets with glass doors - they were changed (long before me) from a fairly traditional round brass knob (with some pattern engraved…if that’s the right word) to a bright painted ceramic sun which I guess is “fun” without being terribly obnoxious.
But the rest of the house- upstairs and downstairs is all the same pull on every cabinet.

We built an open concept in 2021 and had a similar decision to make. Mixing metals was the new trendy thing among others. My OCD wouldn’t be able to handle that so we did brushed nickel all around and mixed with The light fixtures in the foyer, above island, and Bfast area have oil rubbed bronze. The cabinets are white shaker style and walls are 50% grey. For island we did full grey instead of 50% and it looks good. Not a standout piece as navy but subtle. Wife wanted a timeless classic look and keeping all the metals the same blended the two rooms as one. Only thing that really separates them is a brick arch.

My house is relatively open and each room has its own cabinet pulls. I'm happy with it. It's one of those things that seems like a huge deal now, but you'll never really think about again.
