If you aren’t opposed to a wagon, a Subaru Outback with the Wilderness package is a pretty sweet rig. CVT unfortunately, but haven’t heard any major issues with them.

I wouldn’t over complicate a vehicle to use 4WD maybe 4-5 times in a decade.
I’ve gotten all of my 4WDs stuck bad and/or wrecked multiple times. That never happens with a 2WD.
