About 3 years old …

Recently noticed dirt/gunk spots after washing. No rhyme or reason to when- just sporadically.

Noticed these same thing on the empty cylinder after washing.

Quick google search shows detergent build up,..

Anyone ever experienced, and found resolution?

Does your unit have a drum clean cycle? Typically this cycle needs to be run monthly. There are a couple of different manufacturers of drum cleaning agents.

If the drum clean cycle doesn't get the job done (it didn't for a kid who got a used one), you'll have to remove the hubcap looking thing at the bottom. Easy, but worth watching a YouTube. Once you clean up what's under that you should be good.

I had two HE washers with no agitator, scum buildup was very common.
I used Tide washer cleaning powder and the drum clean cycle about once a month.

Side note-BOTH washers failed within 3 years each. Drum suspension failed due to violent spin cycle.

So I went back to the old school agitator (HE)washing machine, and the scum no longer builds up.
