Looking to level my backyard . It’s not awful but could use soil , do I just add over top of lawn? What kind of soil. Slidell , Louisiana area. Appreciate the help.

I've made several post/topics related to leveling if you care to look.
Use sand, not soil.
Soil will never level a lawn for more than a couple of weeks.
Even sand will settle and you'll have to keep adding more.
Look for mason sand or constructions sand.
What type of grass do you have?

Nice lawn you have. Mine has those empty spots also. Should I feed first then add soil and sand? Or sand level then seed

Appreciate it, it's come a long way.
Feed afterward, otherwise the nutrients in the fertilizer will be unevenly distributed by all of the raking.
I'm not sure how much you know about Centipede's nutrient needs, but make sure to use a 15-0-15 fertilizer as Centipede hates phosphorus (middle number).

Oh wow. Thanks, last time I feed had big number in middle. If I can pick your brain during this process I would appreciate it.

I think they meant to say you need to add fertilizer BEFORE adding sand.
Then if you have a reel or rotary mower you should cut to 1" height.

Rotary - normal one or two blade lawn mower that walks the grass by spinning horizontally above it.
Reel - golf course mower. Fancy. Cuts grass like scissors using 5 to 7 blades.
Verticut - Google image it. It tears or shreds the grass by slightly digging into it. When your grass gets too thick you verticut to break up the stolons (runners). This isn’t much of a concern unless you use a reel mower.
Top dress - This is done when your lawn is already pretty level. You would typically distribute a thin layer of sand using a machine. I’m assuming that’s why he might fertilize before…because it’s a thin layer that won’t require moving tons and tons of sand. Too dressing isn’t leveling. What I did was level. Sounds like you’ll be leveling too.

Throw down the fert, throw down the seed.

It’s fun. Yeah I’m in BR but I still don’t know where to go. I got sand at Clegg’s. It did the job, but it wasn’t great stuff. So many rocks.
Search my topics and you’ll see other guys mention a few places.

Don't do too much. I wouldn't fert, sand level, seed, etc. If you have centipede I'd fert and mason sand level. Make sure you have a leveling rake and a push broom. Also, centipede is a slow growing grass so keep the mason sand thin. You can't level a lawn with one sand application. It is going to take multiple years to get in completely level.
