Lennox AC question

House built in 2022. Elected to go with a 3 ton and 3.5 tone AC made by Lennox. Midrange systems. Supposed to be reliable and energy efficient.
The units are very efficient and work well. But... the start up and shut down sounds awful. Always has too.
The unit starts with a jolt sound and ends the cycle with sorta clank sound.
Anyone else experienced this? I am not unhappy with the equipment. I just wish it sounded cleaner
. The running sound is quiet and smooth.

Check fan motor mounts.

Yes... that makes me think it may be a design thing.

I have an Armstrong (Lennox) and it does the same thing. They’ll make 5 years before we put money into it, just like every other brand.

Sounds normal
Very likely is, but if it is very bothersome, installation of a soft starter on each unit would likely significantly reduce the noise of compressor start-up by reducting the in-rush starting amperage. Soft starters are installed by most to be able to run a HVAC on a larger portable generator during power outages but a side benefit is the noise reduction of the compressor on start up - there are Y/T videos on this. But the soft starter linked below is close to $400, without installation, though it is a fairly easy DYI install for many.

I have a Lennox unit that does the same. Pretty noisy on the start and gives a loud death rattle on shutdown. Been that way since new.
