Every circular saw I have ever used has been a left blade. I don't even look at the guide while cutting, I always watch the blade and run my line. I've cut just fine for years.

My go to saw is an old school craftsman worm drive, left hand blade of course. At home Depot, and said screw it I'm going to get a battery (DeWalt) saw for my collection, much to my dismay all but the worm drive model are right hand blade.

I've tried to cut on a right hand blade once before in my life and I looked like I've never touched a saw. I honestly didn't even know they were that common, and I called them left handed saws.

Guess I'll get the battery worm drive and stick with my ways. Anyway, fire away some circular saw discussion, left blade vs right blade?

Both. I have corded DeWalt sidewinder (R) that wears a beam saw now. A corded Makita sidewinder (R), corded Skil Mag77 (L), and three battery-powered DeWalts, two with left-sided blades and one with a right-side blade.

Then use the edge of a speed square as a guide and cut true.

Welcome to my left handed world. Weed whackers are the worst bc when you hold it lefty, all the weeds, grass, and rocks are aimed at your legs.

My world has been rocked

Family generations of left blade skill saw users only to find out that right blade is actually common for right handed people.

My wife was concerned for my well being, I passed on buying a new tool.

Others have written on this topic for you LINK as it’s often a debatable topic in woodworking. Pros and cons to using each.

Makes sense because right-handed people tend to cut so that off-cut is right of the blade. That leaves the larger side of the saw's base plate on the material still being supported. Before getting a track saw I only trimmed the bottoms of doors with a sidewinder, safer to guide the saw with the edge of my left-hand index finger. My Makita is lighter and better balanced than the Skil wormdrive, use the Skil for wet treated lumber and cutting shelving boards.
