Lawn aeration question

Aerated my lawn this morning with one of those manual Yard Butler core aerators. Small yard, so wasn't worth renting one. My question relates to what to do with the plugs. I know you are supposed to leave them to decompose, but my home is only 2 years old, with EXTREMELY compact clay soil. The plugs seem to be essentially all clay. I can't imagine it being too beneficial to leave them in the yard. But I don't know shite, which is why I'm here. I've read conflicting info online on what to do with clay plugs. I'm located in Covington fwiw. Thanks

Leave them - they’ll break down pretty rapidly, probably within a week. Your whole yard is clay, they are not going to dissolve back into the holes you created. I deal with the same issue.

I just left them when I did my lawn last year. I’m not sure if it makes a difference either way. If they dissolve and then fill the holes back, it’s still not compacted soil backfilling the holes was my take.

I have about half an acre to do. I plan on using the lawn sweeper to pick them up and fill any low spots. I'd top dress with Mason sand if I were you.

Thanks for the info guys.
Is Mason sand basically same as sandbox sand?

Question...if I already put down barricade, would aerating now punch holes in the protection of the pre emergent? Assuming it is yes.

Yes, but I doubt you’d see a significant effect. Also aeration is usually recommended when grass is in very active growth. The AgCenter literature recommends late spring/early summer (May/June). LINK
By then your initial late winter application of Barricade would have petered out.

As I understand, yes.
