I’m looking to put a loropetalum called Cerise Charm in a landscaping bed because I like the dark purple color. This particular variety is a very dark purple.

My question is would you expect it to lose its color if it’s mainly in the shade? Does anyone have experience with this variety?

They really prefer full sun. At the very least it will get leggy and not flower. Also, a plant that dark will not make as much of a statement in the shade. Typically in the shade you’ll select lighter leaved plants to brighten the space.

Expect a thinner canopy with spare vegetation and reduced flowering with increasing amounts of shade. They do best in full sun.
