Anyone have any suggestions for plants that are controllable on the edge of a lake. Just finishing cleaning out a lake that was being overtaken by alligator weed.

Looking to plant some things to give the fish some cover as well as look nice.

How did you clean the alligator weed? My pond is starting to get bad with it

The manual way. I got a metal rake, drilled a hole in the end of the handle, tied some nylon rope to it and tied the other end to my ankle.

I first cleared about 12" from the edge and dragged it on land. Then I pitched the rake out to the outer edge and pulled slowly towards land. Rinse and repeat until I got that section on land.

Made piles about every 10 feet and let it dry. Gas and a flame burned them on site.

It's a lot of work, but I didn't want to just spray chemicals and let it rot. I spent about 30 minutes everyday for 3 weeks at sunset and cleaned out a 0.5 acre pond.

nothing i can think of along a water edge that won't spread like mad.

personally i'd keep it low to avoid creating a haven for snakes and animals. I'f i had to pick something, i'd go with cattail or iris (NOT YELLOWFLAG)
