kitchen cabinet question

One of the cabinets under the kitchen countertop has a cross-member from the front to back that has come loose and hanging into the path of the drawer. This photo is not at all what mine looks like but it's the closest I could find
In this photo the cross-member is attached with a bracket, mine fits into a channel and is wood glued in place. At the front end the wood glue has deteriorated and broken off so that the cross-member won't reach to the channel it was in before.
I've got a couple ideas about re-attaching the cross-member including putting a few shallow brads into it from an angle. But my question is this: Does that brace actually provide any structural support now that the countertop is mounted to the top of the cabinet? I could see how it's just there to keep the cabinet square in it's pre-installed form. If it doesn't add any rigidity, I'll just pull it out and forget it.

Should be able to pull it out and it'll be fine. The countertop Should serve the purpose that the top piece was providing during the build process.
I've built a handful of cabinets and dressers and those things are inclined to warp like crazy while building. I usually end up adding gussets in more places than is necessary while building them.
