In addition to the return and supply vents providing you additional comfort, it also sounds like the way you have described it you are likely getting better humidity control, and thus , better comfort, with the variable speed units - those systems that run near continuously at slow speeds do a good job of keeping humidity in check when installed properly. Sounds like you got good system.
That is correct. Although we had to raise the humidity after about 2 weeks. It was running funky b/c it could not meet the demand. we had it set at like 40% i believe and it simply couldn't achieve that. Raised it up to i think 45% and it's been great ever since.
The biggest issue i had was i have this big house with 2 units, yet the return air for each unit was less than 10 feet from each other. So my larger unit was pretty much sucking the air from maybe half of the house that it was supposed to be sucking from since it was no where near one side of the house, and then more than half of the house on the side it wasn't supposed to be sucking from b/c of how close it was.
I'm the one that brought up this fact to several of the contractors. The Daikan guys were the only ones to say it to me before i said anything. I think they are called Dream Team now, Annison Heating about a year or two ago.
To me, they are the ones that seemed most knowledgeable on how to fix the issues that i brought up, like my kitchen being hot and my sons bedroom being hot. Both of those issues were provided solutions to me that sounded reasonable and they were solved.
My biggest complaint with the system is that it takes these big arse 4" filters and its imperative you change them regularly. They talked about how important it is to not restrict air flow to these variable speed units. The are like $80 a pop, and i need 3 of them. Fortunately i can get them made from a generic place for half that, and i change them out twice a year, and i make sure to vacuum them up every so often.

I’m about 450 cfm short of the recommended amount of return air on my 4 ton system a problem I thought I’d address when I replace my older system within the year, and I know the new return air vent needs/should to the placed on the opposite side of the house, for the reason you mentioned but where the return air plenum is located in the attic it’s going to be a long run with potential obstacles in the way - no idea how that can be addressed but I’ll let the experts figure that out.
I’ve heard good things about the company you used for your install.
You also bring up a good point that many don’t appreciate - that duct work placement and proper sizing, as determined by a manual D calculation, is every bit as important to proper function of a HVAC and home comfort as the cooling and heating equipment and it’s common for many home comfort issues to be associated with solely the duct work, and not malfunctioning equipment.

I've got nothing but good things to say about Dream Team. They are out of Denham i think. The guy that owns it is who came out and did all the quoting and explaining to me, and i could tell he knows what he's talking about. I think his name was Trey if i remember correctly. And he was out for the two days they installed everything helping out.
No i didn't want to spend that much on a frickin A/C, but what was most important to me is that my house is comfortable everywhere. Before the change, half the rooms in the house would be cold and the others hot, and vice versa in the winter. Now i have a good steady temp throughout the house.
