I need about 4 pickup trucks full of dirt to fill some holes in my yard. I know that dirt is sold by the cubic yard and will be hauled in a dump truck......how much dirt do I tell them that I need?

Measure the bed of your truck X 4. A cubic yard is 27 cubic feet. Height x width x length of bed x 4 = total cubic ft of dirt you need then divide by 27 will give you the # of yards.

A regular shirt bed pickup bed, filled to the top is just over 1 yard. I usually get 1 yard of garden soil in my bed and it’s pretty full.

You’ll pay a premium for a partial load. Average regular dump truck is 8-12 yards.

That's a lot of holes or one really big one

I have a 5x8 trailer and get 1 yard at a time from a garden center a few blocks from my house

I’d say 4 pick up beds full to the top is roughly 6 yards. I spread and leveled 3 yards of sand in an afternoon after work. I hauled one in the bed of my pickup and two in a 10ft trailer. The four wheeled, gorilla dumping cart I borrowed was a game changer.
