Update for everyone,
Sharkbite makes a set of water heater connections.
Never knew that. Easy $50 spent.
Muscling the old out of the way and the new one in was the only issue but my son and I easily got that done.
Pic of the connections
Took me longer to get the old one drained and out of the way than it took to get this one connected.
ETA: one of my son’s good friend’s dad has a plumbing supply company. My son somehow finagled a deal with his friend dad and got the water heater for free.
I’m out maybe $100. I lucked out on this deal to say the least.
