The house I bought is wired for a home audio system. I have 4 speakers in the ceiling in the living room, and 4 speakers on my patio. All the wires are ran back to my media closet. What kind of receiver will I need so I can have an indoor and outdoor zone, can play Bluetooth, and preferably I can tie my TV audio into it as well and possibly still utilize my Sony soundbar and subwoofer

Go to crutchfield.com and pick out a receiver with the amount of channels and zones you need.

Sony soundbar and associated woofer likely won’t be compatible. Put it in bedroom or somewhere else.

Take out a speaker and post the model number and/or picture of the name plate on back.

There are several types of home audio setups and they are not compatible with one-another.

Also note if there is a transformer module along side any speaker.

This. I run 2. One for inside and one for outside. Syncs perfectly.

So still no model numbers for the speakers?

3 ways to do whole home correctly.

1. Most residential systems use DVC speakers and need L+R amplification for each speaker, meaning 16 channels for 8 zones or 4 channels for 2 zones.
2. Some residential systems rely on digital channel combining and need one channel per zone.
3. Professional setups are usually not multi zone but can be. They supply one power source per zone and transformers on the speakers adjust gain.

Any mention of stereo sound or hifi or anything but mono is certainly doing it incorrectly.

Check out the AVS Forums. Huge A/V community and they can answer any questions and give you a bunch of receiver and speaker suggestions.

I have sonos amp and WiFi audio switch from Audioflow and can send music to 4 different zones. Alexa voice control or app based controls. Works perfectly.

Old Russ Audio zoned system was taken out by a lightning strike and this setup replaced it well.

What has been working for me is a basic receiver then a speaker selector switch. You can buy whatever number you need. It did not take me long to learn I use the patio and kitchen 99% of the time, so those two just stay on. No need for true zones.

I have a Denon and a Onkyo for different rooms. The Onkyo covers the LR and patio.

Good receivers... take a pick.
