Herbicide or Fertilize first?

Mostly Empire Zoysia backyard with some St. Aug creeping in a corner. I put down pre-emergent but I fear most of it got washed away in a monsoon. I have a moderate batch of nutsedge and a few fence line weeds. I'm also getting close to wanting to fertilize. Probably this weekend or early next week.

Will hitting that nutsedge with weed free zone stunt my newly awakened Zoysia? It's growing decently. Should I fertilize first? Can I do both at the same time?

ETA: After actually sitting down to read the label, I might be better off with just Sedgehammer on the nutsedge. Thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

Sedgehammer/Permit will take care of those sedges

You'll have to use a specialty product like sedgehammer or prosedge to get rid of nutsedge.

More than likely the pre em didn't get washed away. These products are engineered to be watered in about a half inch into the soil and stay there. They bond with the soil.

As far as fertilizing as long as your zoysia is almost all the way greened up go for it. I have never been a fan of treating weeds and waiting two weeks and then ferting. If I spray a weed and then fert the lawn the fert does not give the weed enough of a boost to overcome the weed control.

Ronk hate to hijack but I have some dismiss and some sedge in my zoysia. What rate would you apply? The grass is 100% green but I'm a little gun shy using it and the burn potential.

Sedgehammer and kill weeds first then fertilize.

Do it quick before the rain though.

Also, it is supposed to cool down a little bit this weekend so I'd hold off on fertilizer any way. And if you put any faith in the models we are due for some 40/50 degree nights in the coming weeks. (I'm ready for summer)

Wow so we are not to fertilize this weekend due to the lower temps next week?

F that. I'm spending my afternoons outside with a two year old EVERY SINGLE DAY. This weather has been pretty great.

Going to get some Sedgehammer from Jeff Feed. I will fertilize on the 15th. That was kind of my original plan anyway. 15th of April, June, and August. Keeps it easy to remember.

Temps of 40/50 won't have an effect on a fertilized yard. As long as we don't get a frost. That's when you have to start worrying.

.2 ounces per thousand square feet but what type of zoysia do you have. Dismiss will yellow certain varieties.

I have palisades, would I just weigh it on my small scale or do I need to use a cap?

It should have come with a dropper type deal or it's a tip-n-pour jug. If you don't have that you definitely want something measures fluid ounces.

It came with tip and pour, just nervous with it since I ruined centipede with it years ago.
