Help with sod for flood prone area

I live on the northshore lakefront, prone to tidal flooding/surges. Yard is St Aug. Last summer's drought killed a good bit of the sod and I unfortunately got behind in watering. This summer good mix of weeds mixed in with grass. Front yard was more weeds than grass but thankfully were green and looked fine when mowed. Francine finished off the St Aug remnants. Will need to re-sod. Any particular grass type that is best suited for this application?

I’m with you, I’m over attempting to keep this type of grass alive

I’m thinking that if you were happy with your St Aug before last year, you should go back with it.
I’ve watched yards in Cocodrie go under for days and the St Aug come out looking great.
Torpedo grass does excellent too, but I wouldn’t recommend that to Satan.

I live on Mobile Bay. I’ve got Centipede, Hybrid Bermuda, and Palisades Zoysia. That Zoysia is the toughest grass in my yard. Once that stuff gets rooted good it does well in this area and over at my mom’s in the Destin area. I’ve seen it sodded on damn near sand and it has thrived.

I live on the water as well and my St Aug does fine even with periodic flooding.

I love a healthy looking St. Augustine yard but that stuff seems to struggle over here. No earthly idea why. When I lived in Louisiana mine never got fungus, bugs, and all the other issues that stuff has. Seems like you have to be a master gardener and spend a lot of time and money keeping it healthy in the Mobile area.

Anyone in Louisiana using paspalum? Beautiful grass and can tolerate some flooding and even saltwater (allows you to kill weeds with saltwater). We used seadwarf paspalum in Florida.

I’m guessing that when you were a kid most people in the neighborhood didn’t have lawn guy’s dragging bugs and diseases in from all over the parish.

No everyone mowed their own yard. Personally I think some of these local sod farms St. Augustine looks a little different than the stuff we had when I was a kid in Louisiana. Our St. Augustine never got fertilized, no fungus or weed stuff sprayed on it, leaves sat on top of it most of the winter, and it simply did not die off ever. Whatever kind we had was tougher than this stuff they sell over here. Everyone I know that has planted Palmetto St. Augustine and Floratam St. Augustine have had trouble with it. The stuff in my yard literally looked like a different cultivar. Different color and a wider blade pattern.
